About myCostumes and about me

Hello, I’m Nathalie.

And I run myCostumes.

For over 15 years, my life has revolved around cosplay, conventions, anime, manga and, of course, wigs.

What began as a small idea has now become a labour of love that has been with me for many years – with its ups and downs and plenty of crazy stories.

Why myCostumes?

The idea came to me in 2006 during a trip to Tokyo.

Back then, I was standing in a Japanese cosplay shop for the first time and thought to myself:

“Why isn’t there something like this here?”

Back in Germany, I couldn’t get that thought out of my head.

In 2009, I finally set up myCostumes as a side business alongside my job as a bookseller. Shortly afterwards, I was at my first convention with a small stall.

An idea turned into an online shop.

An online shop turned into many convention stalls.

What started as convention stalls eventually grew into a proper shop.

What makes myCostumes special is:

I don’t just sell the products – I use them myself.

I’ve been a cosplayer for many years and know from personal experience what makes a good wig.

A cosplay wig shouldn’t just look good in a product photo. It needs to be easy to style, last through several days at a convention, and ultimately embody the character you want to portray.

That’s why I place particular emphasis on quality, comfort and styling options.

Why the focus is on wigs today

The cosplay scene has changed significantly in recent years.

Many products are now available from large platforms and international retailers. At the same time, something has been lost that has always been important to me:

Personal advice.

That is precisely why myCostumes now focuses on what I love doing most and do best:

High-quality cosplay wigs and expertise in styling, care and customisation.

Because selling a wig is easy.

Finding the right wig for a character and turning it into something special – that is the real art.

myCostumes today

myCostumes is deliberately small.

No huge warehouse.
No anonymous mass production.
No thousands of products without personal oversight.

Instead, you’ll find carefully selected wigs and accessories here, chosen for cosplayers based on my many years of experience.

If you have any questions, you won’t be speaking to a call centre agent, but to me.

Someone who has been part of the scene for many years themselves.

And what’s next?

To be honest?

I’m not quite sure myself yet.

myCostumes has been with me through many stages of my life – through conventions, running my own shop, the pandemic, a career change, and now family life too.

But one thing I know for sure:

As long as I enjoy cosplay, myCostumes will be here too.

Perhaps on a smaller scale than before.

Perhaps different from before.

But always with the same passion.
